Vernier · Pre-launch startup
Exactly: A Full Launch System for an AI Money Platform
Vernier is an AI money platform with two products on one engine: an autonomous treasury for startups and a money agent for the people who run them. A brand I took from brief to launch, covering strategy, identity, product UI, a five-page website, social, email, a pitch deck, an event, merch and welcome kits, and an AI image library.

The Brief
Vernier launches two products at once. Vernier for Business forecasts a startup’s cash, keeps the operating buffer payroll needs and moves the rest into Treasury bills and money market funds. Vernier Personal does the same for people, keeping checking exactly full and sweeping the rest into savings. The brand had to work for a CFO and a consumer, feel dark and high tech, and never look like crypto.
The Insight
People don’t fear earning less. They fear being caught short. So Vernier doesn’t sell yield. It sells precision: money that is always exactly where it needs to be, with nothing left idle and nothing short.
The Idea
A vernier is the sliding scale on a precision instrument. You read the measurement where two tick marks line up. That became the brand idea, “Exactly,” and the whole system: two tick scales and one Signal line that means aligned, used as the logo, the charts, the dividers and the motion.
How I Built It
I directed Vernier and produced it hands-on with AI tools. I built the strategy, copy and design boards with Claude as my production partner, and produced the event, merch and lifestyle photography in Gemini from my flat designs. I set the brief and scope, chose the direction and reviewed every piece against the system.
Strategy & Direction
Brand Strategy · Creative Direction
The strategy starts from the buyer’s fear. Founders and finance leads at startups holding $2M to $50M know idle cash is wasted, but moving it is manual, and nobody wants to be the one who got it wrong. The positioning answers that fear: Vernier measures what you need before it moves anything, and explains every move.
Three routes went on the table. Ledger used bone paper and an ink serif, and felt trustworthy but too quiet for an AI product. Prism used violet glass and soft light, and looked like every AI launch this year. Instrument won because it turns the name into a system: graphite and platinum, one phosphor-green signal, tick scales and monospaced figures.

Identity
Logo · Color · Typography
The mark is two tick scales with one continuous Signal line through the center, where the only ticks that meet line up. In the wordmark, the dot of the i is a Signal tick. Mark and wordmark always travel together, and the mark appears alone only as the app icon, favicon or avatar.
The palette is dark by default with one signal: graphite grounds, Platinum text, Steel for secondary text and Signal green for one meaning only, aligned. Instrument Sans carries headlines and text, and JetBrains Mono sets every number, label and timestamp, always with cents.

Graphic Language
Brand System · Data Visualization · Motion
The alignment line from the logo marks the moment money is exactly where it should be: today on a chart, the target on a meter, the edge between sections. Charts use thin lines and a scale for an axis. Actuals run in Platinum, forecasts dashed in Ice, moves in Signal, and anything that needs a person in Amber.
In motion, the scale slides until one pair of ticks meets, then the line lights up in 400 ms. Nothing bounces, spins or glows.

Treasury Console
Product Design · UI
Vernier for Business opens on one question: is the cash where it should be? Total cash, the operating buffer and what’s invested sit on top, with a 13-week forecast below. Every planned move carries its reason in one plain sentence, and anything over the company’s limit waits in Approvals for a named person. The rules panel keeps the floor, the per-move limit and the approved instruments in view, so the AI’s boundaries are never hidden.

Personal App
Product Design · UX Writing
Vernier Personal runs on the same engine with a warmer voice. Home shows everything you have and one promise: checking is exactly full, and bills are covered to a date. Each move explains itself before it happens and comes with an undo window. Rules set what stays in checking and when to ask first, and goals fill only from money the bills don’t need.

Website
Web Design · Messaging · Conversion
Five pages: a homepage for both products, a page for each audience, Security and How it works. The homepage leads with the line and the live console, then splits into business and personal paths. Security answers the question buyers actually ask, what the AI can’t do, with five checks on every move and a short list of promises.

Launch Campaign
Social · Email · Copywriting
The launch speaks to both audiences without splitting the brand. Social runs a launch post, a rules feature, a Personal story and a LinkedIn post that calls idle cash a decision.
Two emails carry the same proof. The Business launch shows one morning of moves, each with its reason, and the Personal welcome gets someone from signup to a first approved move in three steps.

Pitch Deck
Presentation Design
An investor deck template in the same system: cover, problem, product and how it works, plus traction and ask slides set up for the founders to fill with their own numbers.

Launch Event
Environmental Design · Print · Stage
The launch event takes the scale off the screen. The booth stays dark on purpose, so it reads as a quiet room in a bright expo hall, with the scale at eye level where people stand to talk. Wayfinding puts every arrow on a tick.
The badge stays graphite so the Signal-green lanyard does the work across a room, and the keynote screen holds one word: Exactly.

Merch & Welcome Kits
Merch · Packaging · Print
Apparel keeps the mark small on the chest and puts the scale and “Exactly.” on the back. Every new Business customer gets an onboarding kit the day their first move settles: a matte black mailer with the mark debossed inside the lid, a tee, a notebook with a Signal band, a steel bottle, a pin and the signature piece, the Vernier rule, a 15 cm steel ruler with a working vernier scale.
A quick-start guide takes the finance lead from connected to a first move in five days. Vernier Personal customers get a brushed metal card with the scale engraved across it.

AI Image Library
AI Art Direction · Prompt Design
The photography brief reads like the hour before the market opens: quiet, exact and lit by one source. The prompt guide sets what to do and what to avoid, from one cool key light and real people mid-task to no neon, no robots and no piles of cash.
I generated six hero images from it in Gemini, each with a single Signal accent, so they read as one shoot across the website, social, deck and event.
